Overpainting or coating over 3C Weather Defy Masonry Protection Cream could be challenging as it forms a hydrophobic barrier. Coatings such as masonry paint may not adhere well unless the surface is prepared properly. This could include:
Light sanding to roughen the surface.
Using a suitable primer designed for non-porous or hydrophobic surfaces.
If you intend to overcoat, we'd recommend conducting a test application to ensure compatibility. If you're looking for a paintable solution, a primer specifically for hydrophobic or water-resistant surfaces would be necessary to ensure a successful paint application.
In summary: if you intend to decorate a substrate then it would be far more efficient to do that first and THEN use 3C Weather Defy Masonry Protection Cream afterwards on top of the dried coating to fully protect the decorated surface.
As you'll see on our video (above) our brand ambassador Craig Phillips uses various methods of application when he used 3C Weather Defy Masonry Protection Cream on the exposed brickwork side of his workshop. The first, and maybe easiest way to apply the product is with a roller brush. Any brand or style would do but Craig used the Silverline handle and sleeve brushes that we sell on our e-Shop here . The corners and edges, he used a standard paint brush and lastly, he successfully tested a Wagner Paint Sprayer.
Any of these methods will be absolutely fine for your building and so, it comes down to personal choice and/or convenience of the location and particular application.
The first thing to know is that 3C Weather Defy Masonry Protection Cream can be used on both brand new build and old, existing substrates in exactly the same way! The highly protective hydrophobic liquid is based on siloxane meaning it will impregnate into many different stone surfaces both natural and artificial. You can rest assured that 3C Weather Defy Masonry Protection Cream can be applied directly to brickwork, cured cement & mortar, plaster, sandstone, roof tiles and many types of rendered surfaces. A major selling point for 3C Weather Defy Masonry Protection Cream is that it forms a highly water-resistant layer but crucially still maintains water vapour permeability as well as not reducing the breathability of the substrate. Why does this matter? Maintaining water vapour permeability (and indeed breathability) when it comes to construction materials is vital for the durability, performance, and future health of all buildings. The following aspects explain how moisture moves as vapor, not liquid (or water), through various building elements such as walls, roofs, and floors.
1. Preventing The Buildup Of Moisture & Condensation
Water vapour is constantly being generated indoors from high humidity-forming areas such as kitchens and bathrooms where we cook, bathe, and also where people (and animals) gather and thus breath constantly. If building materials are vapour-tight, moisture often becomes trapped inside the actual walls and/or roofs etc.
This trapped vapour eventually cools and condenses into watery liquid condensation which is obviously not wanted.
