With great adhesion to most common substrates used in design & build construction, 3C Paintable Glazing Putty is marketed as a new installation or replacement putty product that tends to be used in applications where glass is bedded and/or sealed to another surface. Traditionally, with such design configurations as sash windows, timber features predominantly and obviously 3C Paintable Glazing Putty performs perfectly well but as trends have evolved, so too have the materials used in frames etc. so it's handy to know that as a Hybrid Polymer product the adhesion and performance on other porous and even non-porous surfaces such as natural stone, metal, plastic or brickwork etc. is equally excellent.

The short answer is yes but its our responsibility to advise that as varnish raw materials change over time (as do paints and lacquers etc), we suggest that a degree of caution should be exercised when overcoating 3C Paintable Glazing Putty with products such as oils and varnishes etc.

The best way to answer your query  for peace of mind is to test a very small area to determine if the chosen coating will take to the cured putty and is compatible for larger use.

As with traditional putties, 3C Paintable Glazing Putty can be used equally well in respect of new build installations and also renovation, refurbishment or remedial works. When planning to either start a new frame configuration or cut out and replace an old material, the preparation would be similar in as much as the surface to bed into and the 2 x substrates that will connect to each other, must be clean, dust-free, dry and degreased (if required). As with all projects, a small test area of your chosen coating should be tried on the cured Paintable Putty before undertaking any major works.
